It’s Never Fine – S4:E20

Before we get started, I want to talk about something you’ll notice as you listen to this episode. We’ve made the switch to a new gaming system, Pathfinder 2nd Edition. Throughout the 20+ years I’ve run games, I’ve switched between a number of gaming systems. For a long time, the World Walkers Universe was played using the first edition of Pathfinder. Now, with the release of this new version, I’ve made the decision to switch things up again.

Honestly, I think from a listener standpoint, you’re not going to hear much difference. It still uses the same dice, a lot of the same words, and we’re still playing the same stories, characters and worlds. So! If this part isn’t very interesting, skip ahead till you hear the theme song, and you’re just about to the the latest episode! Go ahead. It’s fine. I promise I won’t be offended!

For anyone else that wants to hear a bit more about what’s changed, let me break it down. The big difference is that you’ll hear the players doing more during combat, because players get three actions for each turn, instead of the usual move and action D&D has.

Besides that, you’ll hear some new names for Saving Throws. In Pathfinder, there are 3 Saving Throws, which players use when they’re in real danger, like fighting off the effects of poison, falling off a cliff, or driving a psychic force out of their mind. Fortitude is for physical stuff, Reflex is for dodging things, and Will is for charms and mind-control effects.

Also, each player starts with a Hero Point each game. They can cash these in reroll similar to Inspiration in D&D. Not only that, if they’re dying, they can use all of their Hero Points to save their life! They gain more for performing acts of heroism, but points don’t carry over from game to game.

The players have redesigned their characters as well, and we’ll be sharing their character info as well! The biggest changes probably came for Shannon’s character Tristana. She plays a Summoner, a class I wrote for D&D. While I was at GenCon I was able to talk to the developers of Pathfinder, and using their guidance, I built a new Summoner class for Pathfinder 2nd Edition. Huge thanks to the Paizo staff for their time and insight.

In the end, I think moving to Pathfinder will make for a better experience for both the game and for all of you. I’ve read the book cover-to-cover and I think it’s going to make for better combat, adventures, and most importantly, better experiences for all of us.

The Musical Episode – S3: Epilogue

Long ago, a joke was made that the World Walkers should do a Musical Episode. My immediate scoffing of such an idea, combined with the rest of the group’s embracing of said idea, began to feed the flames of interest. Every time we’d get together for a LiveDraw, hang out in the World Walkers Discord, or talk back and forth on Twitter, it wouldn’t be long before Musical Episode would get mentioned again.

In an effort to bury the idea, I decided to put it up as a Patreon Goal. I said that if I ever brought in $500 dollars a month, that’s when I’d a Musical Episode. I then rested easy, knowing that World Walkers had a nice, long time before I’d ever have to worry about that…

Well, that Goal has been achieved, and to be honest, it happened way faster than I thought. It’s taken time for us to get to a point where the Musical Episode would fit within the continuity of the series, but here we are: The Memorial for Brummelstone, who gave his years for a better timeline. The group has gathered this night to remember him, through story and song, before they venture onward…

This was the question asked of the World Walkers when they entered the second floor of Ozen Tower. Suddenly, while Tompkins and Ertlebee ducked behind the safety of a rock, the rest of the group was blasted with a powerful force. Afterwards, they were shocked to discover they had switched bodies. Brummelstone and Tin had swapped bodies, while Vassa and Roborto had done the same.

They entered battle with an immense brain creature and a robed man with an old tome in his hands. During the battle, Tin’s body was cursed by the robed individual. It was then that the group learned that for every injury they inflicted upon the creature, Tin’s body suffered just as much…

Previously, the World Walkers found themselves before the presence of an ancient elemental named Narmul in hopes of saving their guide, Tompkins. However, before it would help, it sought to understand them. It asked a series of questions, but it was Roborto who perhaps received the most difficult question of all. Would he join with Narmul, leave his friends behind and sacrifice himself, in order to help the waking and dreaming worlds in ways he could never imagine while chained to his body.

Recently, The World Walkers came upon the village of Holkins, where they met a kind old Tortle named Kellett. The group was welcomed into the village, though it wasn’t long before they were forced to split up. Vassa, Brummelstone, Tompkins and Roborto have made camp outside of the village, while Constable Paddington, the Bearkin they’ve met several times in their dreams, has led Tin and Ertlebee off to investigate a possible invasion of hobgoblins.

We join Vassa and the crew now, as they wake up to face another day on Rhalanas, the World of Fables.

After Vassa was blasted at the end of the last episode, I ran an extra game with Jane to see what happened, that way the next game wasn’t a back and forth between Vassa and the rest of the group. Curious about Mercurious – S1:E2

In our first episode, five strangers from different worlds were brought together by an entity claiming to be the guardian of the dreaming world. The characters learned that they were lucid dreamers, able to exist fully in both the waking and the dreaming world. They were tasked with bringing together the Shards of Stardust so that the Dreaming Tree could be replanted before it, and all dreams, died.

In this episode, the group leaves the tavern and enters the Dream City of Mercurious, where Vassa is wooed, Ertlebee searches on behalf of King Kevin, Tin carries a heavy burden, and the group meets Tompkins, a halfling architect who may be the next piece of their puzzle.

World Walkers is a 5th Edition Dungeons and Dragons actual play podcast, where a group of adventurers travel from world to world on a desperate quest to save the waking world from becoming engulfed by nightmares.
